Austin and Allison are high school sweet hearts! Austin is a 23-year old and has been a Fire Fighter in the New Hampshire Air National Guard since 2013 and Allison is a 22-year-old elementary school teacher who transitioned to being a stay at home mom. Austin and Allison met their Junior year of high school and married in 2014. They have two biological children (Landon is 4 and Lilah is 2) and a foster daughter, and now, they find themselves in the middle of an effort to bring the newest member of their family home for next year’s holidays.
Adoption was never on the Routhier’s radar until they found out about Reece’s Rainbow. Allison found out about Reece’s Rainbow in the Spring of 2016 and began researching international adoption. Allison was still in school and it wasn’t the right time. They decided to become licensed foster parents through DCYF until the time was right for them to begin the adoption process.
In October of 2016 Allison mentioned adopting a child from Eastern Europe who has Down Syndrome. Austin agreed that reaching out to agencies to gather more information would the next appropriate step. One of the agencies sent The Routhiers a waiting child’s profile from Eastern Europe and they fell in love. The child was a 1 year old girl who has Down Syndrome and a Congenital Heart Defect. She is, in a word, adorable.
They have been racing through paperwork at record speeds. This is going to be a “hurry up and wait” process, where they rush as much as possible, then sit tight until her paperwork is finally completed. Thank you for being a part of our daughters adoption story!
